Description:
The owners at Otter Craft Distilling have had a good look at the current Australian whisky market and made a decision to purge their 500ml whisky bottles, and upscale to 700ml bottles – WITHOUT A PRICE RISE!
It’s incredible forward thinking from Eduard and Julie, the formidable duo behind the Distillery and Bar 26. As cost-of-living pressures hit us all, it’s invigorated to see an Aussie distillery make this change, throwing caution to the wind and giving back a little. Change is only made when the brave few decide to make a difference, so let’s support OCD’s journey as one of 3 Australian distilleries to pull the trigger and move to large format bottlings.
Now, let’s chat about the whiskey in this delightful release…..
Weighing in at quaffable 48% ABV, the spirit was aged for 5 years in an ex-Shiraz cask that was coopered down to 100L from 250L and given a heavy char. The barrel was sourced from a vineyard in Orange by old wine maker Murray Smith, and the result….? Whisky bliss.
Head Distiller, Eduard Otter’s pairing suggestions
“Dark chocolate, dried fruits, or mild cheeses to complement the fruity and soft tannic notes.
A rich red meat dish (like roast beef or lamb) to enhance the wine-like qualities”.
