Using casks that were originally brought to our fine shores by Australia’s Sir Thomas Hardy in the 1890’s, the Rochfort Distillery has created this extremely limited, cask-strength edition of their inaugural Muscat cask release coming in at a dynamic 63.9% ABV.
The French oak casks used originally held brandy and then later Muscat for over 100 years allowing for a nuanced depth of infused flavour and aroma. This expression was aged in one of these ancient Muscat casks that was carefully managed and coopered down to a 100L cask, then lightly roasted, charred and filled with fresh spirit while the cask was still warm to the touch.
Rare and collectable, only 35 bottles were filled at cask strength that virtually sold out at the distillery overnight and we only have two bottles to sell.
Very similar to the standard 55%alc muscat cask release from the same batch but with more intensity. Lots of treacle, dates and spice with the added hints of Turkish coffee, mint and leather. Could do with a few drops of water for the unseasoned palate, otherwise a stunning release for the Rochfort Distillery’s first cask strength expression.
