Tasting notes.Courtesy of Luke McCarthy. Whisky & Alement
Nose: Espresso, dark chocolate, sandal wood, and a herbal, almost minty note upfront
Palate: An initial confectionary sweetness lengthens into cloves, banana and and a hint of eucalyptus. With the addition of water, here comes the fruit: green apples and citrus, and then lavender and orange blossom.
Finish: Big! More cloves, loads of spice, and a textural, oily finish.

Bottling Notes
This incredibly rare 18-year-old cask strength, triple cask release sold out at the Old Young’s distillery in under 24 hours having yielded only 99 bottles. It’s ‘arguably’ the oldest whisky currently available on the Australian market along with its little brother, standard strength, White Label release.
The Journeyman is a truly unique Australian whisky having spent time in three different casks at three distilleries in three states over 18 years. Originally distilled at Tasmania Distillery (now Sullivan’s Cove), Barrel HH066 was filled on the 23rd of November 1999. The ex-bourbon barrel then crossed Bass Strait to Melbourne’s New World Whisky Distillery (Starward) in June 2014 where it was transferred into two first fill 100-Litre Australian Apera casks. After David Vitale chose not to release the whisky under his own label, the two barrels were sold in 2016 to distiller James Young of Old Young’s, who transferred them to his Swan Valley distillery and finished the whisky in a single 30-year-old rare muscat cask from John Kosovich Wines.
Each stop on the Journey has added a signature stamp on the whisky without any one dominating. The 118.4 Proof whisky is bottled without chill-filtration to retain maxim flavour.
