Description
You don’t often see well aged whiskies of Fettercairn origin, a once maligned distillery whose spirit was generally reserved for the blenders market. However, in the past decade, owners Whyte & McKay have lifted their game producing quality rich new-make and once again, Cadenhead’s have weaved their magic wand to produce a stunning finished product.
The whisky was matured in quality PX sherry casks (60%) and robust bourbon casks (40%) resulting in a delectable older malt which will not disappoint.
About Fettercairn distillery
Fettercairn is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland founded by Sir Alexander Ramsay in 1824. The Highland distillery is known for the innovative cooling rings on its pot stills and its distinctly fruity and savoury spirit. The whisky produced at Fettercairn went mostly into blends before a new range was released in 2018 consisting of single malts aged between 12 and 50 years old. The distillery has year-round access to the finest water collected from rainfall and snow melting in the springs and lochs of the mountains and currently produces approximately 2 million litres of pure alcohol a year.
Interesting Fact
The name Fettercairn is loosely based on the phrase “the foot of the mountain” when translated from Gaelic.
