Description
Tamdhu distillery, founded in 1897, has a signature style which displays distinctive notes of spice and dried fruit. After re-racking into Oloroso casks for around 1 year, the Cadenhead’s team felt that there was still something that they could add to the bottling. As a result, these casks were decanted into refill bourbon in October 2022 until the team felt that the whisky was just right and ready to bottle.
Cadenhead’s comments.
“Tamdhu Distillery is a Speyside producer of single malt scotch whisky located in Knockando, Banffshire. Tamdhu comes from Gaelic for “little dark hill”. A reliable component of blends over the years, Tamdhu spirit is known to be sweet and fruity spirit with the ability to handle ageing in ex-sherry casks”.
Graham Wright -The Odd Whisky Coy legend comments.
“Once a second-tier mainstay (always in the shadow of Macallan) of the Edrington group, this distillery’s main role in life was mainly supplying malt to the Famous Grouse, Cutty Stark and Dunhill blends. After being mothballed in 2009, Tamdhu was sold off to Ian McLeod in 2011.
And so began it’ new life.
But wait! The spirit for this Cadenhead release obviously comes from the Edrington era. So, there’s a little bit of spiritous history in this offering. The style in this era according to SoctchWhisky.com, “has a fragrant fruitiness with notes of honey and apple but sufficient weight to cope with ageing in ex-Sherry casks”.
