Description
Matured in 100% American Oak ex-bourbon casks, Tullibardine distillery rarely gets the recognition it deserves from whisky aficionados which is a real shame as their spirit is immaculate often drawing comparisons to The Macallan distillery. Thank the whisky angels that Cadenhead’s know great spirit and often age and bottle Tullibardine as a welcome reminder that this wee distillery is a giant in plain sight.
About Tullibardine distillery.
Located in the village of Blackford, sometimes referred to as “The Gateway to the Highlands”, Tullibardine’s history of brewing and distilling dates back to 1488, when King James IV of Scotland stopped by the site, a brewery at the time, to purchase beer. The property would eventually become a whisky distillery in the late 1940s – although distilling had been briefly tried on several occasions before this.
Tullibardine has gone through numerous changes in ownership since then and has enjoyed its fair share of ups and downs. The distillery lay silent between 1993 and 2003 but was reinvigorated by a group of private investors and then sold to family-owned French wine and spirits group, Terroir Distillers, in 2011. The distillery is now thriving once again with a cooperage, maturation warehouses, blending facility and a bottling line all located on-site.
Interesting Fact
The distillery produces several types of single malt whisky, including their Signature Range, Custodian Collections and Limited Editions.
