Official tasting notes
Nose: oak notes are dominant, followed by toasted marshmallows and dried fruit pudding, as well as cherries, marzipan and a hint of peat
Palate: initially fruity with citrus notes and orange peel, after this: vanilla, butterscotch,
honeycomb and digestive biscuits can all be tasted and enjoyed
Finish: velvet and smooth with lemon meringue, to conclude, there’s an oiliness and a saltiness that you’d expect from a Campbeltown dram

Description
This 12-year-old Kilkerran single malt is Glengyle distillery’s first ‘core’ bottling and was matured in 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks and like all releases from Glengyle’s sister distillery Springbank, the whisky has not been chill-filtered with no added colouring. The whisky is also double distilled in the traditional Scottish style and is produced from lightly-peated malt at around 12-15ppm.
Unfortunately, Kilkerran bottlings are no longer a ‘best kept secret’ with small allocations making it to our shores with bottles snapped up around the world at lightning speed. This expression be available via ballot.
Please note that all Kilkerran whiskies now come without presentation tubes/boxes as the distillery has one eye on sustainability and a cleaner future.
Why the name Kilkerran?
The name ‘Kilkerran’ is used for two reasons. Firstly, because the name ‘Glengyle’ is already used for a blended Highland malt and Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd were not able to purchase the rights to use that name that. Secondly, and more importantly, owners ‘Glengyle Ltd’ are very proud to be continuing the great Campbeltown Distilling tradition and the choice of name reflects that. Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic ‘Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain’ which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kerran had his religious cell and where Campbeltown now stands. Kilkerran is thought to be a suitable name for a new Campbeltown malt since it was unusual for the old Campbeltown.
