Description
Here’s a sort-after Kilkerran from Glengyle distillery that has arrived on our Aussie shores in very limited quantities. Aged full term in sherry casks and at cask strength, it’s one rare beauty, a mighty Campbeltown whisky that comes with all the bells and whistles, sharing the majority of its DNA with Springbank.
Serge Valentin (whiskyfun.com) comments;
“When you try them, you could almost believe they had been distilled at Springbank.”
Unfortunately, Kilkerran bottlings are no longer a ‘best kept secret’ with only small allocations making it to our shores with bottles snapped up around the world at lightning speed. So, we’re offering these up at one per customer.
Please note that all Kilkerran whiskies now come without presentation tubes or boxes as the distillery has one eye on sustainability and a cleaner future.
Why the name Kilkerran?
The name ‘Kilkerran’ is used for two reasons. Firstly, because the name ‘Glengyle’ is already used for a blended Highland malt and Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd were not able to purchase the rights to use that name. Secondly, and more importantly, owners ‘Glengyle Ltd’ are very proud to be continuing the great Campbeltown Distilling tradition and the choice of name reflects that. Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic ‘Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain’ which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kerran had his religious cell and where Campbeltown now stands. Kilkerran is thought to be a suitable name for a new Campbeltown malt since it was unusual for the old Campbeltown
