Tasting notes (whiskynotes.be)
Nose: Notes of sweet confectionery introduce this dram, with turkish delight, pear drops and marzipan apparent on the nose. There are hints of subtle peat smoke, like toasted marshmallows by a campfire.
Palate: Initially zesty with citrus notes of lemon cheesecake and an oiliness typical of a Campbeltown whisky. Peat smoke, leather bound books and peppery, spicy notes develop over time, along with sweet sticky toffee pudding.
Finish: The peat smoke carries through to the finish in campfire embers, with sweet hints of pecan pie and butterscotch.

Description
This 12-year-old Kilkerran single malt is Glengyle distillery’s first ‘core’ bottling and was matured in 70% bourbon casks and 30% sherry casks and like all releases from Glengyle’s sister distillery Springbank, the whisky has not been chill-filtered with no added colouring. The whisky is also double distilled in the traditional Scottish style and is produced from lightly-peated malt at around 12-15ppm. Kilkerran 12-year-old provides a fitting introduction to the Kilkerran range, with citrus notes and an oiliness on the palate.
Unfortunately, Kilkerran bottlings have lost their status as a ‘best kept secret,’ with the limited quantities that reach our shores being purchased globally at remarkable speed.
Please note that all Kilkerran whiskies now come without presentation tubes/boxes as the distillery has one eye on sustainability and a cleaner future.
Why the name Kilkerran?
The name ‘Kilkerran’ is used for two reasons. Firstly, because the name ‘Glengyle’ is already used for a blended Highland malt and Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd were not able to purchase the rights to use that name that. Secondly, and more importantly, owners ‘Glengyle Ltd’ are very proud to be continuing the great Campbeltown Distilling tradition and the choice of name reflects that. Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic ‘Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain’ which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kerran had his religious cell and where Campbeltown now stands. Kilkerran is thought to be a suitable name for a new Campbeltown malt since it was unusual for the old Campbeltown.
