Official tasting notes
Nose: Soft peat smoke, leather-bound books and sticky toffee pudding are present on the nose.
Palate: The familiar rich and dirty character of our Kilkerran 8-year-old sherry series is clear to taste. We also get thick date syrup, blackcurrants, cherries, redcurrants and a maritime coastal taste.
Finish: As the whisky develops, there are notes of ashy medicinal smoke, ginger and chocolate oranges.

Description
This 8-year-old cask strength from Glengyle distillery arrived a few months ago on our Aussie shores in very limited quantities and we’ve only just listed our allocation. Aged full term in Oloroso sherry and weighing in at 57.4% ABV, it’s an unforgettable whisky sharing the majority of its DNA with Springbank.
Part of the distilleries limited core range, Kilkerran 8-year-old cask strength is released annually, either as a one- or two-part release. Previous bottlings have included full maturations in Bourbon, Port and Sherry, with these latest releases fully matured in Oloroso Sherry.
Unfortunately, Kilkerran bottlings are no longer a ‘best kept secret’ with only small allocations making it to our shores with bottles snapped up around the world at lightning speed. So, we’re offering these up at one per customer.
Please note that all Kilkerran whiskies now come without presentation tubes or boxes as the distillery has one eye on sustainability and a cleaner future.
Why the name Kilkerran?
The name ‘Kilkerran’ is used for two reasons. Firstly, because the name ‘Glengyle’ is already used for a blended Highland malt and Mitchell’s Glengyle Ltd were not able to purchase the rights to use that name. Secondly, and more importantly, owners ‘Glengyle Ltd’ are very proud to be continuing the great Campbeltown Distilling tradition and the choice of name reflects that.
Kilkerran is derived from the Gaelic ‘Ceann Loch Cille Chiarain’ which is the name of the original settlement where Saint Kerran had his religious cell and where Campbeltown now stands. Kilkerran is thought to be a suitable name for a new Campbeltown malt since it was unusual for the old Campbeltown
