Pretty much sold out worldwide, here’s a unique Springbank expression with an Australian twist. Cabernet Sauvignon wine casks from Angoves Winery in South Australia were used alongside bourbon casks to produce this unique whisky. The spirit was laid to rest for 7 years in bourbon casks and 4 years in Australian Cab Sav casks making this another highly sort after edition to the Longrow ‘RED’ stable.
First distilled in 1973, Longrow is a double distilled, heavily peated single malt produced at Springbank distillery in Campbeltown, Scotland. The malt is peat dried for up to 48 hours to give the whisky a unique Campbeltown-style smoky character.
PLEASE NOTE: The box has some small stains and scuffles not visible on the pictures.
Nose: A real treat. Sweet in the beginning; raspberry jam and hints of rose petal. As the nose develops it reveals a light peatiness, with cherries, red grapefruit and blood oranges.
Palate: Initially oaky and leathery with a little bit of tobacco and salt, the Cabernet Sauvignon influence appears later with some blackberries and cinnamon. A very chewy dram.
Finish: Long and peaty. Definitely coastal in style, there is a touch of mellow fruitiness here too.
