Description
This new limited-edition release celebrates the unmistakable characteristics of first-fill American oak sherry cask maturation. Quercus Alba Distinction begins its journey in the oak forests of North America, before being imported into Spain where these casks are carefully crafted in the ‘sherry triangle’ over the course of six years.
The staves are left to air dry in the Mediterranean sun before being assembled and toasted by experienced coopers. Finally, the Oloroso sherry seasoning takes place, before the casks travel to Tamdhu. Over time, our vibrant new-make spirit combines with the American Oak sherry cask to deliver rich fruity flavours and a wonderful natural amber colour.
Tamdhu ‘Quercus Alba Distinction’ is bottled un-chill filtered and with natural colour. A delightful Speyside Single Malt for the sherry wood connoisseur.
Interesting Facts:
• The Sherry Triangle is an area made up of three points: Jerez de la Frontera, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, and El Puerto de Santamaría in Spain.
• The name ‘Quercus Alba’ also known as American White Oak is the wood often used for maturing whisky around the world, largely because it’s the wood used for maturing Bourbon and Tennessee whiskies. By U.S. law, those barrels can only be used once for Bourbon and Tennessee whiskies, which means there’s a good supply of used Quercus Alba barrels for distillers around the world to work with.
