The first and most sought after bottling in the series of 4 ‘Gran Reserva’ releases that ran from 1979 until 1982.
Regarded as one of the landmark Macallan releases of the last 20 years. This 1979 Gran Reserva has rested deeply in a selection of the finest Oloroso Sherry casks to illustrate the extreme end of ‘sherried’ whisky. It’s an absolute classic Macallan investment grade whisky that was instantly snapped up by aficionados of rare malts at the very top end of the whisky ladder.
In mint condition which is super rare for this expression. The colour alone is breathtaking and we’re blessed to have some good friends around the globe that sent us a sample for our tasting notes. 😉
NOSE: Big dark fruit notes, prunes and dates with simmering spice and oak.
PALATE: Bold and viscous, made for chewing like an old piece of tobacco with waves of dark chocolate, toffee and hazelnut – an absolute delight
FINISH: Long and complex, sweet and spicy. Intoxicating.
