Description
This limited edition Macallan was created in collaboration with iconic British artist, Sir Peter Blake who gained worldwide recognition for designing the cover for the Beatles’ album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band with his then wife, Jan Hawort in 1967. This collaboration is The Macallan’s third with the artist, and is part of a relationship that has spanned almost four decades that began in 1986 when Sir Peter Blake designed the label for the revered 1926 vintage Macallan 60-year-old and the partnered up again for a collection consisting of 13 x 54-year-old, one-of-a-kind bottles.
The 2021 release commemorates Sir Peter Blake’s visit to The Macallan Estate on the legendary River Spey and tells the story of some of the colourful characters from The Macallan’s past and present and features a label digitally designed by Sir Peter himself. The Macallan Lead Whisky Maker, Sarah Burgess, was inspired by Sir Peter Blake’s character to create a whisky classic in style with surprising notes of treacle and black pepper.
The presentation box houses the bottle, a certificate detailing the history and heritage on which the art was based, and artwork printed on a scroll. This brightly coloured scroll contains a collage representing anecdotes from the wider collection, portrayed in Sir Peter Blake’s distinct style. A tracing paper overlay provides information on each character from The Macallan’s history that Sir Peter chose to include in his art.
Please note: There’s a very small mark on the front bottom of the presentation box just above the letter ‘a’ in Peter Blakes signature that is impossible to see in the photo and barely noticeable to the naked eye. Apparently, many of the presentation boxes arrived with similar minor flaws so take this into account before purchasing the bottle.
