Official tasting notes
As is characteristic of the Equinox & Solstice series, this is a vividly fresh and natural example of Pulteney. Gently coastal with notes of chalk, hessian and white flowers, but with enough peppery and lightly waxy backbone to evoke its Eastern Highland origins. Direct, charismatic and easy drinking – a perfect dram for sharing and for spring.

Description
This 2008 vintage, 13-year-old Old Pultney independent bottling was drawn from the mix of two 1st fill barrels and one refill barrel and laid to rest for 13 quite years. The whisky was then bottled at this series’ (Equinox & Solstice) trademark strength of 48.5% yielding 830 bottles with a very small amount allocated to our Australian shores.
The label art this year has been created by Melissa Nash and explores themes of ecology and our proximity to nature.
Independent bottler, Angus MacRaild comments:
“Much of our time and focus is spent creating labels and bottlings under our various Sponge series which celebrate all that is silly, surreal and satirical. However, everyone has a serious side, so we’ve created a more philosophically minded, seasonal series of bottlings to reflect this. It’s called Equinox & Solstice. This is a series themed around seasons, nature, original artwork and easy drinking, natural, distinctive malt whisky. They’ll all be bottled at 48.5% and each annual set of four bottlings will feature specially commissioned artwork by a different artist.
About Old Pultney Distillery
The distillery was established in 1826 in the name of Sir William Pulteney (who died in 1805), and is located on the most northerly shores of Scotland, where the North Sea meets the Caithness coast. It’s here that you’ll find the town of Wick, the home of Old Pulteney, whose whisky captures the very essence of its location as a maritime malt. Ever since their distillery doors opened, almost 200 years ago, and to this day, the whisky breathes in the sea air, taking on its coastal qualities.
