Official tasting notes:
“By including Black Malt Barley, Aromas of dark chocolate and brittle toffee clash, while amped up notes of aniseed and charcoal elbow there way to the fore to puncture your palate and thrash your taste buds”.
Ardbeg ‘Ardcore’ Limited Edition 700ml 46%
The Palate Punkturing dram celebrating Ardbeg Day 2022.
Cask type: Ex-Bourbon
Bottler: Ardbeg distillery
Release Date: May 2022
Bottled to celebrate Ardbeg Day 2022 and the devil-may-care attitude of Ardbeg fans, the Ardcore Committee Exclusive is described by Dr Bill Lumsden as tasting “like biting on a spiky ball”. The expression is a part tribute to Islay’s obscure punk past and a celebration of ‘Punk Ellen’, the affectionate nickname for Islay’s harbour, Port Ellen in the 1970’s. As all Ardbeg expressions, the whisky is non-chill-filtered with no added colouring.
The Distillery comments:
“From a Distillery with more ups and downs that a pogoing punk comes Ardcore. Created with roasted black malt, roasted to the extreme, this spirit is all about what happens up front – centre stage. The malt is what defines its distinctive profile. Ardcore is a dram that wears its heart on its sleeve… its black heart”
The deep black roasted malt that characterises Ardbeg Ardcore has only ever been used once before by Moet Hennessy for their Glenmorangie Signet and is a first time for Ardbeg.
